What happened
On August 31, during a livestreamed safety technology event for the Zhijie RX, Zhijie Automobile product manager Li Xinyue revealed that the vehicle has initiated L3 autonomous driving access testing.
This follows Yu Chengdong's announcement at the August 20 launch that the Zhijie RX is designed with a future-oriented L3 autonomous driving architecture. Additionally, Zhijie executive director and executive vice president Zhao Changjiang recently said that more than 90% of pre-sale orders have opted for the L3 architecture.
Why it matters
The start of L3 access testing signals a concrete step toward bringing higher-level automated driving capabilities to production vehicles. The strong pre-order preference for the L3 architecture suggests that customers are already looking beyond current driver assistance features, which may push automakers to accelerate such technology rollouts.
